The new thing in our house is "tag your it"...

We play it during the day....

Josh and Kate play it at night...

We play both in the house and outside the house...

Inside is my favorite because there just isn't that much room...

So laughter fills our home and joy fills my heart...

Kate and I decided that today was going to be a pool day since it was pretty hot when we went out in the morning. I informed her that we would fill the pool up, but we would swim after nap time when the pool water wasn't so cold.

After we are finished filling the pool up, I took the hose over to water my flowers. I can see Kate in the corner of my eye looking to see if I am watching but slowly taking her clothes off for a quick swim. I decide to not say anything because it is just too cute. Instead I just grabbed my camera to take a shot.

I understand, I sometimes don't want to wait for things either.

Extra Tidbit that has been on my mind all day...
Today was the anniversary of Seth's death, my brother. He was 17 years old when he passed away. Today marked his 17th year of his anniversary of this death. It just doesn't seem possible.

Kate has decided that the branch we cut down in the front yard is her car! She keeps asking me if I want to go for a ride in her car. She will take me to the library!!

We spent this afternoon doing projects outside. Josh was trimming a branch off the tree in the front yard that was hanging low, and I was re-painting some end tables for our bedroom. While Josh worked in the front yard and as I took a break, Kate kept sneaking over to Lisa's house (our neighbor) and picking tomatoes off the plants to eat. I figured it was best to head to the backyard to avoid that tomatoes and get back to my project. I was busy painting away, when Kate stands next to me with TWO tomatoes in her hand. I obviously was not watching very close and she reached through the fence to pick more tomatoes. So, the tomato thief is back in business. Just like last year!

I love listening to my little bug read her books and this summer has been great because we read for hours in the morning. Her favorite books to read are her Clifford books. While cleaning out tubs in the basement this summer, I found a tub of books that we got from Josh's uncle that weren't age appropriate when we got them but perfect now. In that tub there were about 15 Clifford books!! She fell in love right away.

Anyway, one of these Clifford books, has a song in it. She loves to sing it while reading this book to me. I've been trying to get it on video for a few weeks, so I finally decided that I would just set the camera on the couch while she reads it to 'catch' the song. It is just too cute!!

The 'Real' Words...
"Who's the biggest dog around? Who's the reddest dog in town? Emily Elizabeth loved that pup, Loved him so that he grew up! It's Clifford, It's Clifford, loveable, laughable Clifford! It's Clifford! It's Clifford! Good old Clifford Yeah! The Big Red Dog!!"

After Bible study at church (which I love and wish I could be a stay-at-home mom to attend every Friday morning), we had a few errands to run for my class this weekend. This lead us into lunch time and still out and about. We decided that it was a perfect day for a lunch date! I love lunch dates with my little girl.

In my efforts to do a little redecorating in my home (the key word here is efforts, I'm not good at this kind of stuff), Kate has enjoyed playing with what she calls her magic stick. You see, I was stuffing some pillows with stuffing and inside the bag of stuffing was a little wooden stick. She has been running around the house with it, which I'm not too crazy about. When she can't find her magic stick, she grabs a decorative stick from a vase that I have that holds them. She has made Shiner pretty upset by trying to poke her with the magic stick. It was a learning experience. Well tonight, she thought that her magic stick was a good witch's wand. This prompted her going to the closet to get the broom and run around the house. Never a dull moment....NEVER!

I accomplished something pretty impressive today that I'm extremely proud of. Tomorrow I might be even more excited and proud. I opened up my Grandma Henery's sewing machine and worked on Kate's curtains for a few hours after Kate went to bed. There were two items that I wanted from my grandma when she passed. One was her kitchen table where we would spend every Easter coloring eggs. The second was her sewing machine. My sister inherited my mother's, so I wanted the second best thing. I was a little worried that it wouldn't work, but it started up right away. I was so proud that I spun the bobbin, thread the needle and began sewing away. At about midnight, I broke the needle so I had to put a stop for the night. I hope to finish the curtains tomorrow and will show off the results.

The machine that made so many quilts....

As I sewed I shed a few tears in remembrance of my grandmother and of my mother.
I have decided that they would be proud of my efforts!

My first row on the old machine...

It is much more straight than I thought it would be! I must have improved from my last project ten years ago.

As soon as it was done, I just felt great inside. A sense of accomplishment I guess. I've been saying to Josh that I wanted to pick up sewing again, but this makes it a little bit more real. I guess that perhaps that quilting class this winter is something that I really want to do deep within. I couldn't take the smile off my face. Too bad my whole family was in bed to witness my joy!

I have decided that my summer is slowly coming to an end, and I haven't done any of the "home decorating/improvement" projects that I had in mind to accomplish. I've started like five of them, but yet to finish any of them. So, today I began getting my fabric ready for the Kate's curtains and Kake painted her canvases for our bedroom wall. I'm hoping to have my bedroom done by the end of the week and Kate's at the end of the weekend. This will be a huge accomplishment. Then I only have a few small projects to finish before school begins...

We decided to make a quick impromptu trip to the Omaha Zoo on Sunday before heading back home. We love the Omaha Zoo, and we didn't want to go a summer without a trip. We again picked one HOT day to go, but we did have a nice time. We didn't stay for very long, but Kate didn't seem to mind one bit. This year her favorites were the gorillas, lions, tigers and the giraffes.

The whole way down to the zoo, she kept saying that she was so excited to see the penguins. We saved the aquarium for last. The minute we walked in, she feel asleep! I tried to wake her, but she wouldn't do it. We decided to just head to the car and head home. Next year, we will do the aquarium FIRST!

I think we have this same picture from last year!

Daddy, we go here next!

What are we looking at? Look Below!

This gorilla was sleeping on the roof of the peak hole!

This year she loved the gorillas the best!

Today was Nicholas' party for his deployment. We joked that he could have picked a hotter day to have the party, but it was still a wonderful time even if we were a little on the sweaty side! It was wonderful to be surrounded by family supporting Nick.

The party made it become a little more real that Nick is leaving here shortly. We all knew the time would be here soon, but it is really hard now that it is here. He has joined the Waterloo Unit in order to be part of the deployment and his send-off will be on August 3rd at UNI.

Please pray for him while he is overseas!!

Today we had to hit the road for a weekend back in northwest Iowa. Josh's little brother, Nicholas, is getting ready for his deployment to Afghanistan. He leaves on the 3rd of August for his final training and flies out sometime in September to head over to Afghanistan. He was having his party on Saturday, so we needed to make a trip home!

I decided to pack on Friday morning and relax Thursday night. This made Friday morning pretty busy since Josh got off work at 1:00. I had to finish the laundry, pack, run to Target, and get Shiner to the kennel. While packing the bathroom bag, Kate came into the bathroom to inform me that she had an owie on her foot and asked for a band-aid. I should have know better but I handed her the box of band-aids since I was packing like a crazy lady. When I finished packing the bathroom bag and Kate's bag, I walked into the living room to find this...

She kept them on all day.
Grandpa Henery got a bit kick out of it when we got to his house!

Today we met Kate's best friend, Clara, at the park and splashpad in town. Clara goes to daycare with Kate and her mom works with me. They had a blast playing and sharing stories with each other. It was so much fun to watch them interact with each other. Next year our daycare lady will have another child. I sure hope the girls play well with him. He might have to get used playing dress-up, dolls, and tea parties and being bossed around my these two!!

Today was one of the hottest days that we have had this summer. So, I jumped on the opportunity to head to the pool when my friend called for a playdate. We haven't made it to the pool yet this summer because we hadn't had anyone to go with. It was so much fun, and I think we might just have to go back again next week. Anyone want to come with?

I could tell Kate was so warn when we got home, but she was refusing to head to her room to take a little catnap. She pleaded with me to lay on the couch and watch just one show of WordWorld. I decided that it was okay while I unpacked the pool bag and put our things away. I walked backed into the room to find her not lasting more than five minutes!!

We got up early this morning to drive Shelby and Bre to volleyball camp at UNI. It was a little bit of a blast from the past walking into a UNI dorm room again. I also got to walk past Schindler and through the WRC also which brought back so many memories from years ago.

Once Sue, Kate and I got back to town, we drove over to Old McDonald farm to show grandma the ducks. Then we had a little girls lunch out while the boys were out golfing. We love having them in town to visit. We wish they could come down more!!

Today Grandma Sue and Grandpa Dave came for a visit with Aunt Shelby and her friend Bre. Kate played with Grandpa and Josh while the girls went to see Rent done by our local community theatre. It was quite fun! Shelby feel in love with one of the cast members, which reminded me how I am so not ready for the teenage years.

Later that evening, Kate put on her own little show for us after bathtime.

There are many things that Kate loves to do, but there are also many things that she does not like to do. One of them is clipping her fingernails. It is a battle every time they get a little long. It usually begins with Josh or I attempting to hold her down while the other clips It is a horrible and painful process. Tonight, Kate just let Josh clip away (I think he bribed her with ice cream)....
