Nebraska vs. K-State

Evalie Says...

Everyone knows that my heart bleeds red (which is convenient for me teaching at LinnMar), and that Josh's heart bleeds purple (convenient for being Dutch alum). So, we decided that this year we would go to the K-State vs Nebraska game in Lincoln. Early in the season, especially after Nebraska's lost to Iowa State (seriously what happened here?) I was afraid that the Wildcats might take my Huskers. I know I just put that in writing, but as our season continued and well as K-States season continued, I knew we had it in the bag. I mean come on, we have that Henery kid : )

Josh, Dad and I headed to Lincoln in the afternoon to meet up with my cousin, Andrea, for a little tailgate. We also were going without tickets in hopes to scalp. We grabbed the first tickets we could find, and met up with Andrea. We soon found out that my Aunt Delpha and Uncle Nick were also in town. We met up with everyone for about an hour before the game. It was nice to see them since we barely see each other anymore. After the game, we were able to see my Aunt Mary and Uncle Guy along with my cousin, Eric. We all waited around to talk a bit with Alex, who had an amazing game!

Josh and I had nose-bleed seats, but it was still nice to enjoy the game together just the two of us. We decided that we should try to catch the game next year in Manhattan, but we will just have to wait to see. I don't know if I could sit in that much purple :)

Evalie Says...

While we were at Aunt Annie and Uncle Paul's for Halloween, Kate wanted to play on the piano. This is nothing new, we have to tear her away from it every time we are over there. Most of the time, Uncle Paul (or Grandpa Paul according to Kate) sings with her. That night, she decided that she would perform for us the ABC song. She did it about three times, before I remembered I had my camera with me. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. I think lessons are somewhere in our future!

Halloween

For some strange reason when Halloween rolls around, I'm suddenly reminded of our first Halloween as a family. It was not a pleasant adventure for me, and I was afraid it had ruined Halloween for me. But each and every year our Halloween exceeds the last. I can only imagine what next year will bring...

This was the first year that candy meant something to Kate. After she realized that she was able to take candy from the neighbors by ringing their door, I was afraid she would be going over the following day with her bag.


Her monkey was a hit everywhere we went. She only said 'trick or treat' twice, but I think next year we will be better!

Leyla and Sam Came to Town

Evalie Says...

Kristin, Justina, Sam, and Leyla come to visit when I had my heart biopsy (the tissues came back with no inflammation, which is good). The kids had so much fun playing with each other. I know Kate thinks that playing with Leyla is much better than "skypeing" with her. I mean who wouldn't think the real thing is better, right? They played hard as I recovered. We watched YouTube videos DVDs, cooked with the new kitchen, made tents (thanks to Kristin),watched Josh run a race, played PlayDough, played with Aunt Annie and Uncle Paul, and colored! We even got to watch Auntie Jussy clean my kitchen floor!

We can't wait for them to come visit at Thanksgiving when Taryn can come too!

My Baby is Two!

Evalie Says...

Kate's birthday was on a Monday this year, so we decided to have a small little party after dinner with cake and ice cream. We invited over Aunt Annie, Uncle Paul and our neighbors, Kent and Lisa. Kate enjoyed blowing out her candles with daddy and opening up her presents.

It's hard to believe that Kate is already two years old. It seems like yesterday when Josh and I were bringing her home. I am cherishing every moment of watching her grow into such a strong, talented and creative little girl. I love seeing her personality develop. I could not imagine my life without her, she brings me so much joy. God has truly blessed us.

It's Time

Evalie Says...

I guess it is time to get myself back into the swing of things. It has been noted by numerous family members that it has been quite some time that since I have written anything. So here I go backtracking to October to get you caught up with our chronicles.

I should start with the weekend before Katherine's second birthday. We were hoping to have a large party in Dubuque at the water park with as many family members as we could, but it didn't seem to work with everyone's scheduled. Plus I got scheduled for a heart biopsy the following week, so my sisters decided to wait and visit then. Grandpa Rapp was the only one able to come visit.

Loren, Josh and I decided that we really didn't need to get our bodies into swimming suits and decided upon sweatshirts and winter coats. So,we headed off to the pumpkin farm outside of town. We had visited last year with Kate and had a great time. We had been looking for a perfect weekend to go again, and what a perfect one when Grandpa Rapp is in town.
