This weekend was the last weekend that I had weekend class this semester. I was really excited for the weekend to be over since I miss spending time with my two favorite people. It will be so nice to be finished with my program in August.

When I got home on Sunday, Josh and Kate were out in the back yard scooping the snow off the patio, building a snowman, and also pushing each other in the sled. I tried to capture their fun in the snow. I'm hoping that most of the snow is gone this weekend (one can dream, right?).

This evening Josh had his work Christmas party, and we needed a babysitter. We planned on using a Linn-Mar high-school student, but the WPA dance was also this weekend. Every girl I asked, had already asked the boy of her dreams to the dance! It wasn't looking like we were able to make it, but Aunt Annie, Uncle Paul and Molly came to the rescue. Molly is home for Spring Break, and Kate was ecstatic to get to spend some time with her Godmother. Kate was very excited as she packed her bags for a trip over to their house.

Tonight while cooking dinner, Kate informed me that Shiner was out of food. I opened up the container because she likes to put a scoop in her bowl. She did this while I continued to cut the veggies. The next thing she tells me is that Shiner is out of water. I keep cutting, and I inform her that I will help her fill the bowl when I finish with the onion. She walks out of the room, and I assume that she went to grab a toy. When she enters, I see she is holding Shiner's bowl filled with water (from the bathroom sink, she has a stool in there) trying to walk nice and easy to not spill. Of course, she has left quite the little water trail. I laugh and ask her to hold still while I go grab the camera. I try to get her to smile, but all I can get is her 'sad' face. How precious is that?

On a side note, this 'sad' face happens about four to five times a night. We will be playing and having a great time. Then she will announce that she is sad, bow her head, pout her lip, and either need a hug or want to be removed from the activity. It lasts only a few seconds and is ready to play again shortly after. A few days ago, she got 'sad' in the middle of hokey pokey!! Linda says she does it quite a bit at daycare also! Isn't she a hoot?

We had this great picture of the day for today, but it didn't want to cooperate.

Kate and I got up semi-early and tried to hit the walk-in clinic right when they opened. I had taken a few licks of Kate's sucker prior in the week and she gave me the cold of the century. Her cold was pretty much gone but a cough, and my cold was getting worse every minute. I figured if I was going in, I would have them double check her over. It turns out that my cold is viral, and well Kate has a minor ear infection. They put her first ever antibiotic. I'm pretty proud that this is her first time with medicine. Either we are sheltering her too much, or she is one tough cookie.

Since Kate was not contagious, Josh took her to church while I stayed home to nurse my cold. On their way home, they took a pit stop at Dick's Sporting Good for some shopping. Josh informs me that she was standing next to him one minute, and then the next minute she was gone. She had not gone far as he was in the bike section. She had attached a helmet to her head and was mounting the bike. Josh quickly took her picture with his phone, but the picture seems to not want to send by facebook or email from his phone. I hope you can imagine what she looked like with her pink winter coat, pink helmet and pink bike. I think she is ready for triathlon season. What do you think?

Joshua Says....

One of Kate's favorite thing to do is to help open doors. She will sit and watch as Shiner goes outside and open the door for her when she wants to come back in. As part of our training with Shiner, we always give her a treat when she goes outside to go to the bathroom. Kate has taken a liking to giving Shiner her treats too.

Kate has a little love for glasses and tries to get mine in her possession. I try not to let her play with them, but about a month ago she got a hold of them out of my make-up bag. She walked around the house with them getting very dizzy from the blurred vision since I'm blind as a bat. Anyway, Josh and I had a good laugh when she had them on. Today she got her hands on them again. It was very entertaining to watch her try to walk with them on. She was very sad when I had to take them away.

Kate woke up in the middle of the night around 4:00. Josh went down to check on her, and he ended up laying in bed with her to have her fall back asleep. He must have fallen asleep with her. When the two of them woke up at 6:30, he noticed right away that her cheeks were on the rosy side and felt warm. We took her temperature and it was a little over 100 degrees. I quickly jumped on my computer and created some sub plans and called in a substitute teacher.

I was a bit nervous since we haven't really experienced flu like behavior from Kate before. But at about 9 o'clock in the morning I noticed that Kate was feeling more like herself. The Tylenol must had kicked in, and I began to investigate her mouth since we didn't have any other flu like symptoms. My gut feeling was right and felt a few little 2-year molars entering into this world. Our day home has been an interesting one. Her moods have been hit and miss, but she has been a teeth trooper again. We are still waiting for the top left to poke through, but the other three have arrived.

Kate spent her day in her pj's and well so did I (after I changed from what I put on to go to school before I knew she was not feeling well). The high excitement of the day for me was that Kate was a little cuddle bug. We spent time watching a movie on the couch together. We also enjoyed the arrival of Grandma Sue's Valentine's day gift. The bubbles didn't last longer than ten minutes. We also had quite a bit of time painting and coloring. All in all, a great sick day. I mean no puke equals one happy mother : )

Tonight after dinner, we created some valentines for our friends at daycare. We had so much fun creating them that we began making them for everyone!

After finishing each one, she would hold it up and say,
"Happy Valentine's Day!"

My daughter has no fear. My family likes to chuckle at how brave she is. At the Henery Christmas two weeks ago, she thought she would just climb up my aunt and uncle's stairs on the outside of the railing. She even thought their railing that looks down over the entryway would also be fun to scale. She has been climbing up on things since she was able to pull herself up. My sisters tell me that she reminds them of my brother Seth when he was her age. He also had no fear.

With that being said, we have moved to jumping off and onto things. Her favorite choice is jumping from couch to ottoman to couch. At times the distance is very far away. Josh and I know that we should NOT be letting her jump on the furniture like this, and when it first began we put her in time-out. Now we are so amazed with the distance that she does that we find ourselves allowing a few jumps here and there.

Tonight Josh tried to catch her in action. This is one of those 'amazing' jumps that we have seen her do, but it is a jump none the least.

We had another snow day today. This was a wish come true for me, and I got some grad work done. I still have a lot to get done before this weekend, but I'm getting closer!

Kate today did a lot of coloring and painting today while I worked at either the computer or the table. We were studious together. I wanted to show you my favorite masterpiece from today.

We have decided to push our kitchen table to the wall to give us some open playing space for Kate. She is getting a little restless with this long and tough winter, and we figured that this open space would allow for much more room to run and play.

We also decided on getting out some of her summer 'outside' toys. We enjoy riding our car and our tricycle around the house.

She hops in and informs us where she is going. Sometimes it is to church, to the library or the store. She is always on the go.

It is a very busy time for me. My grad classes are a little intense right now, and I feel very overwhelmed. Tears have come easily these days...the best way I know how to handle stress. Well, along with the many packages of vanilla oreos that I have eaten in the past few days

So, I almost forgot to get a picture of the day today. I quickly captured Kate giving her bedtime hug to Shiner. I promise Shiner is happy. She only looks like she is unhappy.

Hopefully, I do better the rest of the week with taking pictures.

This afternoon we took the time to play outside in the snow.
My daughter is obsessed with eating the the fluffy white stuff.
Her stick was her spoon scooping it up and bringing it to her mouth.
