Evalie Says...

I just spent my morning with a local celebrity, and I had the best time! You see, we are big PBS fans at our house. So, I thought it was appropriate to hit up Dan Wardell, the goofy host of IPTV Kid's Clubhouse, at our local library for his summer reading tour. We went with a few other kids from our church and had a blast. We sat in almost the front row. Kate wasn't too sure of him in the beginning but by the end was playing right along. I will admit that I was playing along the whole time.

After the story hour was over, we went over to the library to check a few books out. Since we were at the library in the mall (still waiting for the new one to be done from the flood), we hit Chick Fil A for lunch. It was a great date with my little gal.

Today began with Kate taking a trip to see Linda, our daycare lady. I knew I should get some grad work done. I don't have to take comps, but I have to go back and create a portfolio reflecting upon all the classes/assignments/papers that I took and created in the past two years. I'm glad I don't have to take comps, but the work amount makes me want to curl up and hide. I must remember that I only have one more month left.

After the day of work, we needed to complete a family Target trip for a few items. I decided on the way home that I was not in the mood to cook, so I treated my family to a Milio's dinner. While we were there, Kate and I hit the bathroom. Kate ran in and began getting herself ready to hop up on the toilet. I noticed right away that the toilet was a little tall and that help was needed.

"Kate do you want me to help you hop up?"

"No, I can do it."

After struggling for a few minutes, I ask again, "Kate, do you need help from mommy?"

"Yeah"

After she hops on she sits there for a few minutes and says, "Mommy, sometimes super heroes need help."

You see, Kate still believes she is Super Hero Kate. It is not uncommon when I ask for help that she announces that 'Super Hero Kate is on the way!' or that 'Super Hero Kate to save the day!' She even has an imaginary belt that she snaps on (she gets this from WorldWord on PBS with Super Hero Sheep).

I knew that she was a little defeated that her super hero powers wouldn't let her climb up on that big toilet. Perhaps next time...

Evalie Says...

If you know me, you know I am not a morning person. I used to love wasting the day away in bed until I crawl out mid-morning / early afternoon. I always found it interesting that I went and married a man that is a morning person. Well, actually we both fit perfectly into our birth order rules. With Josh fitting the role of the oldest perfectly and myself the youngest, we collide in many aspects of our lives. With my luck, Kate has followed in her father's footsteps. I'm hoping to change this one summer at a time.

You see....

I am a little sneaky and keep Kate up a little later than she does in the school year just for a few extra hours in the morning. I know that it must drive my daycare lady because I'm sure she is a bear when she returns in the fall, but I can't help it. I love sleeping in! I so desperately miss it.

So you must be wondering when I will get to the point of this story and how does it tie in with the picture of the day? Well it is a bit ironic. You see, I have come to realize that my favorite part of my summer vacation is my mornings with my daughter. Are you confused yet? You see, she sleeps in about two hours later than I would have to get up if I was going to work, which is nice. But the following events are my favorite. I wouldn't trade them for anything. Here is how it goes...

I awake in my bed while I hear Kate over the baby monitor say, (Yes, we still us it and probably will until she is 16. There is nothing wrong with being able to hear her breath!) "Mommy, I awake!"

I crawl out of bed (no matter what time of day, it takes me a few minutes) and head down the stairs to her room. I open the door to find a smile on her face.
She immediately asks, "Where is daddy?"
I reply with, "He's at work."
Kate, "Oh, he is at work! Okay."

She jumps out of bed and walks out the door with me as we hit the bathroom to do our morning business. Then we head to the kitchen to get our morning beverages, a Dr. Pepper for myself and chocolate milk for Kate. Next we head to the couch where we spend sometimes the next hour cuddling on the couch watching some cartoons. I will admit that sometimes it is longer than an hour.

It is my favorite time of the day because she
cuddles,
whispers I love yous,
showers me with kisses,
and makes me feel like the most important person in the whole world.
My heart is so full!

It is hard to believe that I would get this much joy so early in the morning.

Perhaps I am developing into a morning person.

This evening I realized at bedtime that I hadn't taken a picture. I grabbed the camera and asked Kate to smile for me. She ran to the corner of the dinner room and tried to hide under her chair. I guess she really just wanted to go to bed. I really can't blame her, I am worn out too!!

When we went home this weekend, Shiner had to go to our "back-up" kennel. We don't like to take her there, but we didn't really have a choice. When she spends the weekend there, we are pretty sure she doesn't sleep. She spent the whole night and next day sleeping on the couch. I could barely move her!!

Glad to be home, Shiner?Don't worry, we missed you!!
