Today we headed over to the Waterpark of America to spend a few hours for Kate's birthday. We had such a blast. Grandpa Loren even convinced us to go down the family slide, which might have caused Kate some physiological problems later in life with water slides (actually, it was fun).
We had a great day with lots of love from our families.
We feel blessed...
Fun at the Waterpark...

Today we headed up to the twin cities to have Katherine's birthday party and Kennedy's baptism and took Uncle Paul with us.
I had mentioned prior that I had bought birthday gifts for all the kiddos for their birthdays since I have been a little behind (way behind). We got into town late and went straight to Kristen's house. Kristen allowed for the kids to stay up to see us. Leyla loved her presents (so did Taryn).

We have been exposed to the world of silly bands, and it is all my fault. I thought it was a great idea to purchase some silly bands for Sam and Leyla, and so if I was buying for them I was also buying for Kate. We bought a package of Dora themed, and she thinks they are pretty cool.
To be quite honest, I also think they are cool!
Please don't tell my students, they think I hate them.

We found it! Kate has been asking to be Jessie from Toy Story for Halloween, but we were not having any luck finding a costume. I was even thinking about getting the sewing machine out and create a look alike. But, we were able to locate one today.
My favorite part of the evening...
She walked into the living room,
lifted her hat,
and said,
"Hey Howdy Hey, Giddy-up!"

Today we went to IC to do some shopping for Kate's birthday. We had to go down there because they had the "DORA BIKE" in stock at the Wal-Mart. Someone named Kate has been a little obsessed with wanting this bike for her birthday, and we were beginning to worry that we wouldn't be able to find it. We found it today...thank goodness!
We also did a little shopping for my nieces and nephew for next weekend. I'm a horrible Auntie and never got Sam and Taryn their birthday presents. Both of their birthdays were back in May!! I thought I would pull an Aunt Ellie on them (we always got her birthday cards a few months later, which made it extra special) and bring them gifts next weekend.
Anyway, Justina had informed me that there was a stuffed pillow pet at Target that Sam had fallen in love with. Justina and Kristin have told me that he has asked for it on numerous occations. I had decided that it had to be the gift from me.
Before we purchased it, we needed to text Justina to make sure it was the right one....

So when Kate was back visiting with Grandma Sue and Grandpa Dave, they let her open her birthday gifts since they weren't going to make the party. Grandma Sue bought her a cape with a 'K' on it for 'SUPER KATE'!
This cape completes her Super Kate to the rescue act.
Wouldn't you want her to rescue you?

This evening was the Nebraska Kansas State game. Our original plan was to go to the game in Manhattan this year, since we watched the game last year in Lincoln. But when it came out that the game would be a Thursday game, things changed. There was so way I could be able to get off work to go.
Instead, we invited Uncle Paul and the neighbors, Kent and Lisa, over for Taco Soup and to watch the game. We had a great time hanging out. I was excited that Nebraska won, but I made sure that I didn't rub it in. It will be sad next year when they don't play each other. It was always a great time giving each other a hard time as the game approached.
Through the game and the party, I forgot to take a picture for the day. I decided when Josh was putting Kate to bed to take a photo of our necklaces that we wore for the evening.

Happy Birthday, Joshua.
I want to brag a minute about how lucky of a woman I am to have been able to marry such a remarkable man.
When I first laid eyes on the new kid back freshman year of high school, I never thought that he would be the man I married and share my life with today. But I guess that is why God works in mysterious ways. Josh seemed to be the sort of kid that wouldn't give me a chance, and lets be honest he wasn't the kid that I would have given a chance. We ran in different circles in high school, and I didn't think I was missing anything by not knowing this kid that was in a few of my classes.
It wasn't until our senior year when our circles began meeting more often. I was very hesitant at first because I was really ready to leave and go to college. I wasn't really looking to start dating anyone, my plan was to go to college and find the love of my life. I didn't think it was going to happen prior. But something did change, and I felt myself actually being me with someone. This was something that I never had experienced before.
What God had taught me in a matter of weeks is that this guy is pretty remarkable. I know it is pretty darn cheesy, but I really believe he is my soul mate. God made our paths cross because He knew Josh and I would give so much to the other.
When I found out about my heart attack two years ago and life began to turn a bit for me, Josh stood strong next to me. Just like he did when mom died. Even though he has a hard time showing his emotion publicly, we have shared some scary moments together during my illness. I know that he didn't sign up for a wife that has a genetic heart condition, but he loves me all the same. The words he shares, the kind gestures he makes, and the support he gives has made me keep going many days. I’m thankful that I have him around to make me see the good when things looked unpleasant.

Today I made the cake of all cakes!
You see, tomorrow is Josh's birthday. It will be his 30th, and deep down I am feeling very guilty that I didn't throw him a bash. We agreed to have a big party for our graduations, but we never could find a weekend that worked for everyone. Soon it was way too late and after the fact to throw a party. So, I started thinking about doing a surprise for his 30th. Well things snuck up on me and before I knew it, it was two weeks away and no party was planned.
Needless to say, I was feeling very guilty.
What makes all guilt go away?
Chocolate...
AND
Peanut Butter....
The result, a Betty Homemaker Cake!
To my husband with love...
Sorry there is no party tomorrow...
Does this make it better?

So, Josh and Kate went home for the weekend for Josh's best buddy Seth's bachelor party. Kate was going to stay the weekend at Grandma Sue and Grandpa Dave's.
I was told to get some school work done and relax. Today, I only found the relaxing part which was well deserved. I went and got a massage, manicure and pedicure. I guess tomorrow is the day to get school work.
It appears from the pictures I got that Grandpa Dave got Kate ready for the game!

So this year our assistant principal tried to get my team to do something to assist in making the kids do well on magazine sales. I joked about shaving my head, but I knew seriously that I would have to make a decision on something that I WOULD do. So, I convinced my teammates that we could dye our hair pink for a day. I knew that our kids haven't been great at magazine sales, so I didn't think they would make their goal. I even got a few other 6th grade teachers to jump on board.
Last year's sixth graders sold a little over 6,000 dollars in magazines, so we said that we would dye our hair if they sold 7, 000 dollars. This was dumb but brilliant all at once.
We have two turn in dates for magazine sales. This year's sixth graders turned in 7,135 dollars in the first turn in day and a total over 20,000!!
Needless to say, I had some hair dye to buy!
So, today was the official PINK DAY at school.
The kids loved it!!

I took this picture of Kate in the car on the way to work today with my phone. It isn't as good as the donut day, but she had peanut butter all over and in her hair when we got to Linda's. I guess having a little of peanut butter and toast on the way to daycare isn't the greatest idea.
